All on 4 Dental Implants
What are All-on-4 Dental Implants
The All-On-4 procedure involves placing 4 or more dental implants in the upper and/or lower jaw, then attaching bridges to restore chewing power and give you a beautiful smile.
Some benefits of All-On-4 Dental Implants include:
Amazing looks! Get the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted!
Non-removable. DOES NOT come in and out of the mouth like a traditional denture.
Best chewing capability. Provides the greatest chewing power so you can eat the foods you love.
Most natural full-arch teeth replacement option.
Requires the least amount of available bone.
Great for people who have been told they don’t have enough bone for implants.
Procedure for All-on-4 Dental Implants
This procedure involves removing any remaining teeth, placing 4-6 implants per arch, and attaching a low-profile bridge to those implants. The implants are often placed at special angles to avoid the patient’s sinuses. This also avoids the need for expensive bone grafts, which require long healing times.
The traditional All-On-4® procedure involves four implants and acrylic denture teeth over a titanium frame. Our doctor has modified this procedure based on his experience and knowledge to provide an even better result for his patients!
At Ohio Implants and Dentures, we carefully analyze each and every case and base our treatment on the individual patient’s anatomy. Your doctor will place between four and six implants per arch and temporary fixed bridges will be placed while your implants integrate with your jawbones and your mouth heals.
After your healing is complete, the doctor and lab technician will fabricate your final teeth, which will be fabricated from zirconia. Zirconia teeth are not only much stronger than traditional acrylic (plastic) denture teeth offered at most other dental offices, but they also give a more natural, life-like end result.
In addition, zirconia teeth are more hygienic and resistant to staining. This means they will last longer and look better than the acrylic/titanium hybrid bridges you find at most other practices. Also, the teeth that your doctor designs are planned and milled digitally using the latest CAD/CAM technology, so there will always be a saved file of your teeth if they ever need to be replaced.
Q1. What are ALL-ON-4® teeth in a day dental implants?
The All-On-4® Teeth in a Day procedure allows most patients to have their remaining teeth removed, implants placed, and a beautiful, fixed, functional smile delivered over the course of a single day! This procedure has the ability to not only give patients a beautiful smile, but also give them a fresh outlook on life. We see countless patients who are suffering with mouths full of extensive decay, failing old dental work, and broken teeth. For these patients, All-On-4® Teeth in a Day is the perfect solution to obtain a new smile and fix the dental problems that have plagued them for years.
Q2. Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Most patients will be a candidate for this procedure, even those who have been told they don’t have enough bone for dental implants. Your doctor will use a combination of straight and angled implants to avoid the sinuses and engage the strongest bone. Using this technique usually removes the need for expensive and lengthy sinus augmentation bone grafts. Your doctor will perform a thorough evaluation during your free consultation to see if All-On-4® Teeth in a Day is an option for you.
Q3. Will I be able to eat with my new teeth from day one?
Yes! However, while your implants and teeth are securely placed from day one, we do ask that you maintain a soft diet during the 4 month healing period. What exactly does that mean? A good general rule is you can eat anything you can cut with a plastic fork. The reason for this is that you are investing in something that could last you many decades, even the rest of your life, and maintaining a softer diet during the healing period will allow the best integration of your implants into your bone and help ensure the best long-term outcome.
Q4. What will my final teeth made of?
Your final teeth will be made of zirconia. While most offices still place outdated acrylic titanium hybrids for their final bridges/teeth, our office makes them out of zirconia. These are digitally designed and milled. This allows us to have a digital file of your teeth saved for the future in the rare case you did have a tooth fracture or wear down. If you choose another office, make sure you know what kind of teeth you will be getting. If you do get acrylic denture teeth with a titanium bar at another office, expect to have staining around your teeth and to replace them every 5-10 years. Also, make sure you know how much you are going to pay for the surgery, temporaries, and final teeth. Many offices will charge you a surgery/temporary fee only for you to find you owe an additional $5,000-$15,000 for your final teeth.
What is the All-On-4® Teeth in a Day procedure?
All-On-4® Teeth in a Day is a full-arch dental implant procedure that allows most patients to have their remaining teeth removed, implants placed, and a complete set of fixed, functional teeth attached all in a single visit. It was pioneered by Portuguese dentist Paulo Malo in the 1990s and has since been performed on hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide. The procedure has been refined significantly over the years, and what we offer today is the result of decades of innovation in implant technology, materials, and technique.
For patients suffering with mouths full of decay, failing dental work, and broken teeth, All-On-4® is a way to start over. It’s not just a new smile. It’s a fresh outlook on life.
How do I get started?
It all starts with a consultation with one of our highly-trained doctors. We’ll take a 3D scan of your jaw, and your doctor will examine your mouth to determine whether the All-On-4® procedure is right for you. From there, we’ll walk you through your treatment plan, timeline, pricing, and financing options so you have a complete picture before making any decisions.
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Most patients are candidates for this procedure, even those who have been told they don’t have enough bone for dental implants. Your doctor will use a combination of straight and angled implants to engage the strongest areas of your jaw while avoiding the sinuses. This approach usually eliminates the need for expensive and time-consuming bone grafting procedures, which means fewer surgeries, faster recovery, and lower cost.
Conditions like bone loss, periodontal disease, diabetes, or smoking don’t automatically disqualify you either. During your consultation, your doctor will perform a thorough evaluation, including a full scan of your jaw, to determine whether All-On-4® Teeth in a Day is the right option for your situation.
What if another dentist has said I'm not a candidate or don't have enough bone?
The majority of patients who have been told they aren’t candidates for dental implants are actually good candidates for All-On-4®. Using advanced implant placement techniques, we can complete this procedure for many patients who thought it wasn’t possible. In most cases, we can do this without the need for bone grafting that would delay treatment by months or years.
If you’ve been told no elsewhere, come see us for another opinion. You may have more options than you think.
What if I already have dentures?
We see many patients who are currently wearing dentures they’re unhappy with. They’re often some of the best candidates for All-On-4®. If you’re tired of removable teeth that slip, require adhesive, and limit what you can eat, this procedure can give you a fixed, permanent set of teeth that stay in your mouth and function like the real thing.
What if I already have an implant or implants? Can they be used for All-On-4®?
It depends. There are many factors that go into this and every case is unique. Some implants can be utilized while others can’t. Your doctor will explain this in detail during your evaluation.
How much does the All-On-4® procedure cost?
At ViaSmiles, All-On-4® treatment starts at $14,995 per arch, thousands less than most providers in the area. We’ll walk you through exactly what’s included and every available option during your consultation so there are no surprises.
We also offer flexible financing options, including CareCredit and third-party payment plans, to make treatment accessible. We work with our patients in every way possible to help them move forward with confidence.
Can I use my dental insurance?
Yes, we work with most dental insurance plans, and we’re happy to file your claims for you. Coverage varies by plan, but more insurance companies are covering dental implant services today than ever before. Bring your insurance information to your consultation and our team will help you understand what your benefits cover.
Does Medicare cover dental implants?
Traditional Medicare does not cover dental implants or most other dental services. However, some Medicare Advantage plans do provide coverage for dental implant procedures.
Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for dental implants?
Yes. Dental implants and dentures are eligible expenses under most HSA and FSA plans. We’ll provide you with the necessary documentation for your records.
How long does the procedure take?
Every case is unique, but the surgery itself typically takes about 1.5 hours per arch. After that, our in-house lab fabricates your temporary teeth, which takes about 2 hours. If you’re having a single arch treated, most patients are finished around lunchtime. If we’re replacing both upper and lower teeth, expect to be done around 2:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon. A good portion of that time is spent waiting for the lab and trying in your new teeth. It’s a long day, but it’s absolutely worth it.
How long does the full process take from start to finish?
After your surgery, you’ll typically wear your temporary bridge for 3-4 months while your implants integrate with your bone and your gums and jaw heal into a stable, long-term position. This healing phase is what ensures the closest possible fit for your final teeth.
Once healing is complete, we begin fabricating your final bridge. This involves a few appointments over a 5 to 6 week period, during which you’ll help us design the smile you want for your permanent teeth. Start to finish, the full process typically takes about 4 to 7 months.
Can the extractions, implants, and fixed teeth really be completed the same day?
Yes. This is our preferred approach and it produces the best outcomes. With the advanced implants and materials available today, there’s usually no reason to drag the process out over months or years the way it had to be done in the past. You come in with failing teeth and leave the same day with a fixed, functional set of implant-supported teeth.
Are All-On-4® bridges always attached the day of the procedure?
In most cases, yes. However, in certain situations, usually dependent on your bone quality and quantity, we may not be able to attach your bridge the same day. In those cases, you’ll wear a temporary healing denture while your implants integrate with the bone. Your doctor will go over this in detail during your evaluation so you know exactly what to expect.
How can I get fixed teeth in one day? I thought implants had to heal first.
What makes this procedure unique is that all of your implants are rigidly splinted together by your new teeth. The bridge connects them into one unit, which prevents the micro-movement that can lead to early implant failure. Your implants and bridge essentially support each other from day one. Over time, your jawbone naturally grows around and fuses to the implants, creating a permanent bond.
Will I be able to eat with my new teeth from day one?
Yes. Your implants and teeth are placed securely on the same day, so you leave the office with a fully functional smile. That said, we do ask you to stick to a soft diet during the 3-4 month healing period while your implants integrate with the bone.
A good rule of thumb: if you can cut it with a plastic fork, you’re fine to eat it. Think scrambled eggs, pasta, fish, cooked vegetables, and similar foods. Once your implants are fully healed and your final bridge is placed, you can eat just about anything, including steak, nuts, apples, and all the foods denture wearers have to avoid.
The reason we’re careful during healing is simple. You’re investing in something that could last the rest of your life, and giving your implants the best chance to fuse properly with the bone sets you up for the strongest long-term outcome.
What do the new implant bridges feel like?
Your new bridge will be a new sensation in your mouth. Most patients adjust within a few days, though it can sometimes take a couple of weeks to feel completely natural. The bridge is fixed to your implants, so there’s no movement or shifting like you’d experience with a denture. It will feel solid and stable from day one.
Will I know how to use my new teeth right away?
There’s a short learning curve, just as there would be with any prosthetic. That said, because All-On-4® teeth are rigidly anchored to your jaw, they’re the easiest full-arch replacement option to get used to. There’s no slipping, no floating, and no need for adhesive. Most patients are eating comfortably and speaking naturally within a few days to a couple of weeks.
Will I know how to speak with my new teeth right away?
Speaking will take a little time to feel natural again. Your mouth and tongue need to adjust to the new shape and feel of your bridge. The sounds that give people the most trouble early on are “s” sounds. Practicing words like “Mississippi” and “sixty-six” at home can help you adapt faster.
Most patients sound like themselves again within a couple of weeks.
How long after my procedure should I wait to use a water flosser?
Patients should wait 3-6 weeks after their procedure before cleaning with a water flosser. This allows your surgical sites to heal properly before introducing the pressure of a water flosser. Your doctor will let you know when it’s safe to start.
Most patients sound like themselves again within a couple of weeks.
Is there excessive pain involved in this procedure?
The discomfort is comparable to what you’d experience with dental extractions. We use a combination of medications to manage pain and keep you as comfortable as possible. If you’re a candidate, the doctor may also administer a steroid injection that helps significantly with discomfort and swelling during the first few days.
Many patients come in for their next-day post-op appointment reporting far less pain than they expected. The anticipation is almost always worse than the reality.
Can I be put to sleep for my procedure?
We offer multiple sedation options for patients who are nervous about their procedure. Whether you’re dealing with dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, or just prefer not to be aware during surgery, sedation can make the entire experience more comfortable.
During your consultation, your doctor will review your health history to determine which sedation option is the best fit for you. Many patients who were nervous or even terrified about the procedure say that knowing sedation was available is what gave them the confidence to finally move forward.
What is the recovery time like for this procedure?
Recovery varies from patient to patient, but overall, All-On-4® has a shorter and easier recovery compared to other full-arch replacement options. Because your bridge is attached directly to your jaw through your implants, there’s no loose prosthetic moving around and creating sore spots the way there is with traditional dentures or snap-in implant dentures.
Most patients find that the majority of their discomfort and swelling subsides within 1 to 2 weeks. Complete healing, meaning full integration of the implants with your bone, typically takes about 4 to 6 months.
How long should I take off work for recovery?
Of all the full-arch replacement options, All-On-4® tends to have the shortest return-to-work timeline. Generally 4 to 7 days is sufficient. That said, since there’s always a chance of bruising and swelling, and you’ll be getting used to eating and speaking with your new teeth, the more time you can take off the better. Your doctor will give you a realistic expectation based on your specific treatment plan.
How long will I bleed after the procedure?
Any significant bleeding will have stopped before you leave the clinic. After that, expect some slight oozing for 1 to 3 days following the procedure. Keep in mind that when the increased saliva your body produces in those first few days mixes with even a small amount of blood, it can look like a lot more bleeding than it actually is.
If you need help with clotting at home, a simple and effective remedy is tea bags. Dampen a regular tea bag, wring out the excess water, and place it directly on the surgical site. The tannins in the tea help promote clotting. You can use multiple tea bags at once and replace them as they become saturated. Repeat as needed. If heavy bleeding continues, call the office right away.
Why am I salivating so much?
This is completely normal in the first few days after having your bridge placed. Your body recognizes it as something new in your mouth and your salivary glands ramp up production in response. The increased salivation should settle down within 2 to 3 days as your body adjusts.
What items should I have ready for after my procedure?
Being prepared at home makes the first few days of recovery much easier. Have the following ready before your procedure day:
Ice packs for managing swelling. Washcloths you don’t mind discarding, as there may be some bleeding. Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting messy. And plenty of soft foods to get you through the first week or two. Good options include scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce, smoothies, protein shakes, oatmeal, and broth-based soups. Stock up ahead of time so you’re not scrambling to find things to eat when you get home.
What will my final teeth be made of?
Your final teeth at ViaSmiles are made of zirconia, which is one of the strongest and most natural-looking materials available for full-arch implant bridges.
A lot of offices still use outdated acrylic denture teeth bonded to a titanium bar. Those hybrid bridges stain over time, wear down faster, and typically need replacing every 3 to 5 years. Zirconia doesn’t have those problems. It’s more durable, more resistant to chipping and discoloration, and looks far more like natural teeth.
Our zirconia bridges are digitally designed and milled, which means we keep a digital file of your teeth on record. In the rare case that a tooth ever fractures or wears down, we can fabricate a replacement without starting from scratch.
One more thing worth knowing if you’re comparing clinics: ask what your quoted price actually covers. Many offices advertise a lower fee for surgery and temporary teeth, then charge an additional $5,000 to $15,000 for the final bridge. At ViaSmiles, we give you a complete estimate upfront so there are no surprises.
What if I don't like my new teeth?
We do everything possible to make sure you love your smile. The teeth you receive on the day of surgery are a temporary set. When it comes time to fabricate your final bridge, you’ll have full control over the design and appearance of your permanent teeth. We work with you on the shade, shape, size, and contour until everything looks exactly the way you want it.
Can food get under my All-On-4® bridge?
It’s possible for small amounts of food to work their way under the bridge, especially in the early days as you learn which foods to watch out for. This is normal with any fixed bridge. The key is a consistent home care routine. A water flosser is the best tool for flushing debris from beneath the bridge and around your implants. Combined with regular brushing and your professional maintenance visits, food getting under the bridge is easy to manage and shouldn’t cause any issues.
How do I care for my All-On-4® teeth?
Caring for your implants is straightforward, but consistency is key.
The single most important tool in your daily routine is a water flosser (Waterpik is a well-known brand). A water flosser is the best way to flush food debris, bacteria, and buildup from beneath your bridge and around your implants. These are areas a regular toothbrush simply can’t reach, and keeping them clean is essential to the long-term health of your implants. We recommend using your water flosser at least once a day, though twice or more is even better.
Beyond that, brush twice a day with a soft-bristled electric toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste. An electric toothbrush does a better job disrupting plaque along the gumline than a manual brush. Interdental brushes and floss threaders are also helpful for getting into tighter spaces around the implant abutments where buildup tends to collect. Finish your routine with a non-alcoholic antibacterial mouthwash to help control bacteria in the areas you can’t physically reach with a brush or flosser.
Smoking can increase the risk of implant complications, so we strongly recommend not smoking with dental implants. Patients with diabetes should also be aware of an increased risk and should make controlling their blood sugar a priority for the long-term success of their implants.
Regular professional cleanings are also important for long-term maintenance. Your doctor will advise on the best schedule for your unique case.
How often should I have my new teeth professionally cleaned?
Your doctor will recommend the best maintenance schedule for your situation. Regular professional cleanings help ensure the longevity of your implants and bridge by removing buildup in areas that are difficult to reach on your own and allowing us to monitor the health of your tissue and implants over time.
Do All-On-4® teeth rock?
No. Your bridge is rigidly attached to your implants, which are firmly anchored in your jawbone. There should be zero movement. If your All-On-4® teeth ever begin to rock or feel loose for any reason, call us immediately so we can bring you in for an evaluation.
Are my All-On-4® bridges removable?
No. Your bridge is rigidly attached to your implants, which are firmly anchored in your jawbone. There should be zero movement. If your All-On-4® teeth ever begin to rock or feel loose for any reason, call us immediately so we can bring you in for an evaluation.
Can my temporary teeth be damaged?
Yes. Your temporary bridge is made of 3D printed resin, which is strong enough for daily function but can chip, crack, or occasionally break. This is actually quite common and not a cause for concern. The great thing about acrylic is that it’s easy and quick to repair. If you have any issues with your temporary, just give us a call and we’ll get you fixed up right away.
Can my permanent teeth be damaged?
While it is technically possible for zirconia to be damaged, it’s extremely uncommon. Zirconia is among the strongest and most durable materials available in dentistry. It’s far more resistant to chipping, cracking, and wear than acrylic. And because we keep a digital file of your bridge, in the rare event something does happen, we can quickly fabricate a replacement.
Why do you call it Teeth in a Day when I don't get my permanent teeth until months later?
It’s called Teeth in a Day because you receive a full set of implant-supported, fixed, functional teeth on the same day as your surgery. These are temporary teeth, but they’re not the flimsy, removable kind. They’re attached directly to your implants and you leave the office with a complete working smile.
The reason we start with a temporary bridge rather than jumping straight to the final is that your mouth goes through major changes during the healing phase. Your bone remodels, your gums reshape, and your bite settles. Starting with a temporary lets us fine-tune everything during this process so your final zirconia bridge is made to fit your mouth in its healed, stable state. That’s how you get the best long-term result.
What about out-of-town offices offering same-day final teeth?
While same-day final teeth work for some patients, there are some real downsides to consider. If complications arise or your bridge breaks down the road, dealing with an office thousands of miles away, or in another country, becomes a serious problem. Most local offices won’t be willing to repair or adjust work done elsewhere.
A major advantage of our approach is that your temporary bridge gives you a testing phase. You get to live with your new teeth, see what you like, identify anything you’d change, and then work with us during the final fabrication to get everything exactly right. We bring you in for try-ins to make sure the shade, shape, and fit of your permanent zirconia bridge are perfect before we finalize anything.
What about mini dental implants? Or snap-in dentures?
Mini dental implants are not related to the All-On-4® procedure. Please proceed with caution at any office recommending mini implants as a permanent full-arch solution. They have a significantly higher failure and complication rate compared to standard-sized implants.
Snap-in implant dentures are a different option entirely and can be a good fit for some patients. They’re a more affordable alternative to All-On-4® and offer much better stability than traditional dentures. We provide snap-in implant dentures as well and have a dedicated page with more information if you’d like to explore that route.
Can implants fail?
Dental implants have a success rate above 95%, making them one of the most reliable procedures in modern dentistry. That said, failure can still happen in a small number of cases. The most common reasons include failure of the implant to integrate with the bone, complications related to smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, or infection at the implant site.
If an implant does fail within the first year, ViaSmiles will replace it at no charge to you.
Do you offer warranties or guarantees?
Yes. We offer warranties and stand behind our work. To keep your warranty active, you’ll need to stay current with the maintenance and hygiene visits your doctor recommends. Certain health factors, like smoking or unmanaged systemic conditions, can affect implant success and may impact warranty coverage. Your doctor will go over all of this with you during your consultation.
I feel like I’m too young for this procedure.
Replacing teeth is not just for the elderly. It’s actually quite common for people in their 40s, 30s, and even 20s to need full-arch replacement. Genetics, medications, medical conditions, and a range of other factors can all contribute to tooth loss at any age.
What matters is that bad teeth don’t just affect your mouth. They affect your overall physical health, your ability to eat well, and your confidence in everyday life. Being able to smile, laugh, and talk without worrying about your teeth can be a turning point for people who’ve been struggling in silence. If you need this, your age shouldn’t be what holds you back.
What is the difference between ViaSmiles and another local office with a wide scope of dental services?
We limit our practice to dental implants and prosthetics. Full-arch implant procedures are what we do every day, and we’re constantly refining our process to deliver the best possible results for our patients.
Many general dental offices will refer you to multiple providers for different phases of your treatment, use outside labs, and have pricing that’s difficult to follow. Their timeline can stretch into months or years, often at a cost that’s 50 to 100% more than what we charge. At ViaSmiles, your doctor performs the procedure from surgery to final teeth, we have an in-house lab and lab technician, and our pricing is transparent and affordable; the price we quote is the price you pay, no hidden surprises. Having everything under one roof is how we deliver the best service at the best price.
Is your doctor a specialist?
Our doctor is a general dentist who limits his practice exclusively to dental implantology and prosthetics. He completed a full-year residency focused solely on dental implants and has dedicated his career to this work since he began practicing. Because of this focus, he places more dental implants than most specialists and other general dentists.
In a very select few cases, he does collaborate with other dental specialists to ensure patients receive the best possible treatment for their specific situation. Dental implantology is his passion, and the results reflect that.
Why is ViaSmiles' price less than many other offices in the area?
Because we perform this procedure regularly and the fact that we limit our practice to very specific services, we have advantages that most offices don’t. We have our own in-house lab and lab technician, and our dentists perform the entire procedure from start to finish. These efficiencies allow us to offer very competitive pricing without cutting corners on quality.
